The word ZUMBA® was coined by Beto and the Zumba company, it is an arbitrary, or fanciful, word they selected as the original brand name that identifies Zumba Fitness' dance fitness programs and related products. The ZUMBA® brand name and related word and logo trademarks should only be used to indicate the source of Zumba programs and related products and should not be used to refer to any fitness program or goods or services other than Zumba Fitness's and it's authorized licensee's programs.

However, it is not recommended to buy a new pair for your first class as they need time to wear in, and can be uncomfortable. Try your casual sneakers or cross trainers, or even if you have an older pair of sneakers with a worn out bottom and see how they go. If they work for you - great! Otherwise you can make a decision later about which shoes would be best for you. Go to your local sports shop and tell them you would like a shoe that will provide you with the proper amount of shock absorption, are lightweight and flexible to exercise with and see what they recommend. It's not necessary to spend a fortune on Zumba clothing, but it is necessary that you make an investment in yourself by acquiring the proper sneakers.
